Sizing: go up if you are between

On runs narrow through the midfoot and slightly short. If you are between sizes, size up.

The length is the smaller issue. Width is what catches out men, because men’s feet are on average wider relative to their length than women’s, and On’s lasts are cut narrow.

Width is the real problem, and it is not fixable

This is the part worth being blunt about, because it is the reason most men who dislike this brand dislike it.

On offers very few width fittings. New Balance and Brooks both sell genuine 2E and 4E across large parts of their ranges. On effectively sells one width.

If your foot is wider than that last, no amount of cushioning helps. Most foot pain blamed on cushioning is actually a width problem — a shoe that is too narrow hurts regardless of what is underneath it.

Do not try to solve it by sizing up in length. Going up a full size to gain width moves the shoe’s flex point past the ball of your foot, which commonly causes arch ache. You gain a little room and introduce a worse problem.

Check you are on the men’s listing

Men’s and women’s versions are built on different lasts and sold as separate Amazon listings. Women’s models are generally narrower through the heel.

The listings look nearly identical in search results, and buying the wrong one is a common, entirely avoidable mistake. Check before you order.

If you overpronate, this brand is not for you

Two things nobody mentions

The midsole outlives its usefulness before the upper does. Worn daily, the foam packs out well before the shoe looks worn. If a pair that felt great in month one feels flat by month six, that is compression, not a defect — and it means replacement, not an insole.
